Through the new surrealist genre Lazarus Nazario tells a story of global upheaval within the natural world. Juxtaposing images is an integral part of the work. She aims to catch the viewer off guard and have them rethink what it is they are seeing and why. Through paintings, drawings & mixed media she confronts individual, political, and collective disconnection. Lazarus creates socio-political art that is political and personal, graphic and poetic. Recently she has been using a technique for oil paintings on aluminum and copper that mimic the look of Daguerreotypes and invoke nostalgia—the kind that has us walking in time with revised histories. Her recent work grew organically from efforts to remain powerful and poetic in the face of a looming dystopia.
